미슐랭토토와 광주 차세대 리더들의 만남
- 양국 간 문화교류로 미래를 꿈꾸다

미슐랭토토통합한국학교(김정숙 교장)는 지난 8월 1일(목) 대한민국 전라남도 광주광역시 교육청 산하에서 선정된 우수 고등학생 1, 2학년 20명과 인솔자 네 명이 본교를 방문했다고 밝혔다. 이번 방문단에는 광주광역시교육청 세계민주시민교육과의 김치곤 장학관과 기현아 장학사, 광주제일고등학교 주은희 교사, 빛고을고등학교 최문숙 교사가 함께했다.
이날 행사에는 한국학교 학생, 교사, 학부모 25명이 참여했으며, 남부뉴저지한인회 이봉행 회장, 티나성 이사장, 그리고 유케라 전 회장이 함께 자리했다. 김정숙 교장은 환영사에서 "교육은 단순한 지식 전수를 넘어 서로의 문화를 이해하고 존중하는 데 중요한 역할을 한다"며, "이번 방문을 통해 광주시 학생들과 현지 학생들이 새로운 시각과 다양한 경험을 할 수 있게 되어 기대가 크다"고 말했다. 이어 광주교육청의 김치곤 장학관은 답사에서 "학생들 간의 교류와 협력을 통해 새로운 인연과 소중한 추억을 많이 만들고, 의미 있는 시간을 가지기를 바란다"고 전했다. 남부뉴저지한인회의 이봉행 회장은 축사에서 "제 고향도 광주인데, 광주에서 이곳을 방문한 학생들과 모든 분께 감사드리며 뜻깊고 유익한 시간이 되길 바란다"고 말했다.
이후 주은희 교사의 사회로 방문 학생들의 플래시몹 댄스와 K-pop 공연이 진행되었으며, 한국학교 학생들의 모듬북과 삼고무 공연으로 양교 간의 문화 교류 시간을 가졌다. 전통놀이 체험 시간에는 양국 학생들이 비사치기와 제기차기, 고무신 던지기를 함께 했다. 학생들은 K-pop, K-drama, K-food를 주제로 토론을 나눴으며, 고등학교 생활과 지역 관광명소에 대해서도 이야기를 나누었다. 마무리 시간에는 서로에게 선물을 증정하는 시간을 가졌다. 기현아 장학사는 마지막 인사에서 "학생들과 뜻깊은 교류 활동을 할 수 있는 좋은 기회를 주셔서 한국학교에 감사드린다"며 "우리 아이들이 한국학교 친구들과 보내는 시간이 즐겁고 의미 있었다"는 소감을 전했다. 아울러 시간이 짧아 아쉽지만, 다음에도 만남이 계속되기를 바란다는 뜻을 덧붙였다.
Korean School of Southern New Jersey ("KSSNJ", Principal Chung Kim) announced that on Thursday, August 1, 2024, outstanding high school students from grades 10 and 11, selected by the Gwangju Metropolitan Office of Education in Jeollanam-do, along with four chaperones, visited the school. The visiting delegation included Kim Chigon, Director of Global Democratic Citizenship Education at the Gwangju Metropolitan Office of Education, Ki Hyun-Ah, Superintendent of Education, Ju Eun-Hee, a teacher at Gwangju Jeil High School, and Choi Mun-Sook, a teacher at Bitgoeul High School.
The event was attended by 25 students, teachers, and parents from the KSSNJ, as well as Bong-Haeng Lee, President of The Greater Southern New Jersey Korean American Association ("GSNJKAA"), Tina Sung, Chairperson, and Kera Yoo, former President. In her welcome speech, Principal Chung Kim stated, "Education plays an important role in understanding and respecting each other's cultures beyond merely transferring knowledge. I am very excited that this visit will provide students from Gwangju and local students with new perspectives and diverse experiences." Director Kim Chigon of the Gwangju Metropolitan Office of Education expressed in his speech, "I hope students will create new bonds, precious memories, and have meaningful times through exchange and cooperation."
In his congratulatory remarks, Bong-Haeng Lee, President of the GSNJKAA, said, "I am also from Gwangju, and I thank the students and everyone visiting from Gwangju. I hope this will be a meaningful and beneficial time."
Following this, Ju Eun-Hee hosted a flash mob dance and K-pop performance by the Korean students, and KSSNJ showcased traditional Korean drumming performances, including Modumbuk and Samgomu, fostering cultural exchange between the schools. During the traditional games experience, students from both countries participated in games like Bisachigi, Jegichagi, and Gomusin Throwing. The students discussed topics such as K-pop, K-drama, and K-food, and shared insights about their high school life and local tourist attractions. The event concluded with an exchange of gifts. Superintendent Ki Hyun-Ah expressed gratitude, saying, "Thank you to the Korean School for providing this great opportunity for meaningful exchange activities with the students. Our students had an enjoyable and meaningful time with their friends from the Korean School." adding that although the time was short, she hopes for continued meetings in the future.
